The first training sessions on the UNDP/GEF Project "Development and commercialization of bioenergy technologies in the municipal sector in Ukraine" took place

Перші тренінги по Проекту ПРООН/ГЕФ «Розвиток та комерціалізація біоенергетичних технологій у муніципальному секторі в Україні»The team of trainers from the public organization "Renewable Energy Agency", which participates in the implementation of an all-Ukrainian information and awareness campaign on the dissemination of information on the possibilities of using biomass as fuel conducted the first training sessions in the Zhytomyr district.

In December, it was planned to conduct training sessions for representatives of the agro-industrial complex and employees of state and municipal institutions in the following cities:

Andrushivka 15.12.2017
Brusilov 18.12.2017

All events were scheduled. Thanks to the support of rayon state administrations, information about training sessions among heads of the villages, settlements, city councils, heads of united territorial communities, farmers and representatives of agricultural enterprises was disseminated, which ensured participation of interested audiences.

The use of biomass as a fuel in the municipal sector of Ukraine

As part of the implementation of the UNDP/GEF Project "Development and commercialization of bioenergy technologies in the municipal sector in Ukraine" www.bioenergy.in.ua an all-Ukrainian information and awareness campaign is being held, which involves the dissemination of information on the possibility of using biomass as a fuel. With the participation of the public organization "Renewable Energy Agency" http://rea.org.ua/en/ it is planned to conduct training sessions, which will consider the following issues:

  • harvesting and processing of agricultural biomass into solid fuels;
  • energy crops growing;
  • legislative regulation of activity on the thermal energy production from biomass and features of tariff formation;
  • preparation and implementation of projects for the biomass boiler houses construction in the municipal sector;
  • provision of environmental requirements for biomass using as a fuel;
  • the bank financing attraction for the realization of projects on energy efficiency and renewable energy sources in the municipal sector.

Joint Statement of the civil society organisations to the Government of Ukraine on setting ambitious targets for RES and energy efficiency by 2050

REA together with "Bioenergy association of Ukraine", "Ukrainian wind energy Association", "Ukrainian national heat pump Association", "Solar energy Association of Ukraine", ecology center for environmental initiatives "Ecoaction" and Association "Energy efficient cities of Ukraine" signed a Joint Statement to the Government of Ukraine on setting ambitious goals for RES and energy efficiency by 2050, which was sent by letter to Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groisman with copies to ministries concerned.

Materials of the presentation of the scenario of Ukrainian energy sector transition towards 100% RES by 2050

On September 20 2017 on the second day of the International Conference "BIOMASS FOR ENERGY 2017" a public presentation of the scenario of Ukrainian energy sector transition towards 100% of renewable energy sources by 2050 was held.

The developed for Ukraine scenarios were presented:

    • NGO "Renewable Energy Agency" with the support of INFORSE Europe
    • State enterprise "Institute of Economics and Forecasting of NASU" with the support of the Heinrich Böll foundation’s office in Ukraine.

Transition of Ukrainian energy sector towards 100% RES in 2050. Public Presentation

The public presentation of the scenario of Ukrainian energy sector transition towards 100% RES by 2050 will take place as part of the project "ASET - Strengthening civil society to advocate for sustainable energy transition (more on the website of the project coordinator: INFORSE - EUROPE).

Results of International Project Bioenergy for Business (B4B)

In 2017, members of the project consortium led by Austrian Energy Agency are completing the international project «Bioenergy for Business» (В4В). The Horizon 2020 project B4B aims at supporting and promoting the (partial) substitution of fossil fuels (such as coal, oil, gas) used for heating with available bioenergy sources (such as by-products of the wood-based industry, forest biomass, pellets, straw and other agricultural biomass products) in the project partners’ countries and beyond.

ASET Project – Advocate for Sustainable Energy Transition in Armenia - Belarus - Macedonia - Serbia - Ukraine

The 1-year project "Strengthening Civil Society to Advocate for Sustainable Energy Transition" in short ASET Project has started at the end of August 2016 and finishes in October 2017.

The Project is an NGO Cooperation across the INFORSE-Europe network in 5 Eastern European countries: Armenia, Belarus, Macedonia, Serbia, Ukraine and Denmark.

The overall development objective of the Project is the transition of the 5 project countries, and ultimately the region to sustainable energy in a way that eliminates energy poverty and reduces poverty in general via creation of local jobs in energy efficiency and renewable energy.

The Project will facilitate to develop and promote sustainable energy strategies that are supported by a group of civil society organizations and that are influencing the official energy strategies or plans. This influence is either local or national, depending on the country.

The Horizon 2020 project Bioenergy4Business (B4B)

There is a new project that gives new opportunities for bioenergy development in Ukraine. Bioenergy4Business is a project funded by the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme of the European Union. Bioenergy4Business involves partners from twelve EU Member States and Ukraine.

Constituent Assembly of Bioenergy Association of Ukraine

Representatives of REA participated in the Constituent Assembly of Bioenergy Association of Ukraine held February 25th, 2013. In his opening remarks, the Chairman of the Board, Georgiy Geletukha outlined the prerequisites for establishment of the Association and presented the results of the previous work of the Initiative working group.

The agenda of the UABio’s Constituent Assembly:

  • Establishment (creation) of the Association specifying the objective(s) of its activity, as well as registration of the Association in the form of a public union.
  • Adoption of the full name and acronym of the Association.
  • Approval of the Charter of the Association.
  • Selection and approval of the Chairman of the Board, the Board, Supervisory Board, the Auditing Committee.
  • Making decision on the person(s) who has the right to represent the Association in legal relations with the government bodies and others, and to act on behalf of the Association without authority.
  • Making decision on the person(s) who has the right to represent the Association to carry out registration procedures.

According to results of the Constituent Assembly Mr. Yuri Matveev, Deputy head of public organization «Renewable Energy Agency», was elected a Board Member of UABio.

Workshop "Landfill gas collection and utilization at Ukrainian MSW landfills: first results, problems and perspectives”

On September 21, 2011  within 7th International Conference on Biomass for Energy there was held a Workshop "Landfill gas collection and utilization at Ukrainian MSW landfills: first results, problems and perspectives". Workshop was sponsored by Global Methane Initiative Program and the United States Environmental Protection Agency and covered the questions of landfill gas projects preparation and implementation in Ukraine.
